About Mr. Somnath Bharti, Advocate, Supreme Court of India and Delhi High Court

Mr. Somnath Bharti is the founder partner of Bharti & Associates (Advocates and Corporate Lawyers). As an alumnus of IIT Delhi and an attorney by profession, he always wears two interesting caps, one of a passionate technologist and the other of a tough attorney and when the two get combined he gets an interesting tagline "A technologist lawyer". Journey started long back when as an IT consultant, he had to brief attorneys for technology cases which, as you could very well imagine, was a real difficult job because they always screwed up the case technologically. Since they had no passion for technology and assimilating the two, technology and law, for them was a real challenge. It was then when he realized the urgent and strong need of a technology oriented lawyer. Today at least in India he is the best bet when it comes to handling a technology oriented/related lawsuit in a court of law. Other than technology, corporate and international law he continues to be the best bet at. Fighting against injustice has been a very strong reason for him to get into legal profession. He practices civil as well as criminal laws in Supreme Court of India, Delhi High Court and International Court. In addition to the present tenure as President, IIT Delhi Alumni Association he has served IITDAA in the capacity of Secretary twice for 2007-08 and 2011-12 and the senate (Governing Body) of IIT Delhi in 2008. He is a member of Bar Associations at Supreme Court and Delhi High Court. He has also been advocate of Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, Dr. Kiran Bedi and Swami Agnivesh in Commonwealth Games (CWG) Case. Because of his efforts, a fellow Indian Vikram Buddhi, incarcerated in USA jails without sentencing for more than 3 years, was saved and within 3 months of his taking over the case, the sentencing was announced. Advocate Bharti has appeared on various prime print as well as electronic media including NDTV, Times Now, AajTak, Headlines Today, Times of India, Hindustan Times, The Pioneer, Indian Express, The Hindu etc. for his views on various relevant and sensitive issues and for his work on Vikram Buddhi incarceration in USA, UID, Right to Education Act, Lokpal Bill etc.
